Rule Number Two: Lessons I Learned in a Combat Hospital

Despite the fact that this too is not quite the type of Army experience I was looking to read about, I really loved all the details put into the story. She is older (comparatively, mind) and higher-ranked, and works with medical teams, providing mental health services. I loved the part where she said she would really miss hearing "Hooah, Ma'am" every morning. She also had twins that were Minion's current age when she left. It's hard to imagine what it would be like to leave your babies behind, but she had a great support group at home who believed in her mission. Of course, her pain at leaving them is obvious. And as the book goes on, you get a great insight into how she became so emotionally numb to everything, as well as an interesting bit of anecdotes as to what happened once she was back home in the "real" world. This book, I guess, is another piece of the puzzle.
